Logo best practices
Before using logos it's important to use correct and well-designed logo assets. A bad logo asset will degrade the user experience and have the reverse impact you intended.
Please observe these guidelines and take time to get the logo asset right:
- Never change the aspect ratio of a logo image so that it is wider or taller than it is intended to be.
- Never scale an image logo larger than its source - this will result in unattractive pixelation.
- Do not use an image if it has an embedded background color, or other artifacts unrelated to the logo – this will look unprofessional. A logo file should use a transparent background.
- Try to use a logo that is wider than it is taller: it will need to fit on the global navigation bar.
- Ensure that the logo file is small and doesn't contain spaces in its name.
- White logos work best. If your company has a white version of a logo, this can be used as a 24 bit transparent PNG.
- The logo should be ideally sized so that there is no padding around the logo.
- When the logo is rendered, the actual size is 32px high.
- 32px high works well for the majority of brands; if your company has a particularly complex logo we'd recommend you use a simplified version if one exists.
Set your company logo in the global header and burger bar
Please observe the best practices before setting the company logo.
Tip: logos in the global header and burger bar usually look best when they are white with a transparent background.
To set your logo:
- If your company logo has been uploaded to your Applaud Cloud tenant, log in and copy the logo's URL. See Managing your tenant and Using a branded theme.
- Alternatively, you can arrange for the logo file to be uploaded to the Oracle E-Business Suite server at $OA_MEDIA/xxas/custom/. This directory can be created if it doesn't already exist. If you upload to Oracle E-Business Suite, the file must be uploaded to all Application Tier file systems, including any external nodes.
- Go to Applaud Administrator: Setup: General: Settings: Edit and set the Branding logo to either the logo's URL (copied from step 1) or, if using step 2, to xxas/custom/my_logo_file.png, replacing my_logo_file.png with the actual name of the uploaded logo.
Set the favicon
Please observe the best practices before setting the favicon.
The favicon must be 16x16 pixels or 32x32 pixels, using either 8-bit or 24-bit colors. The format of the image must be one of PNG (a W3C standard), GIF, or ICO. The file should be called favicon.ico.
To set your favicon:
- If your company favicon has been uploaded to your Applaud Cloud tenant, log in and copy the favicon's URL. See Managing your tenant and Using a branded theme.
- Alternatively, arrange for the logo file to be uploaded to the Oracle E-Business Suite server at $OA_MEDIA/xxas/custom/. This directory can be created if it doesn't already exist. If you upload to Oracle E-Business Suite, the file must be uploaded to all Application Tier file systems, including any external nodes.
- Go to Applaud Administrator: Setup: General: Settings: Edit and set the Fav Icon to either the logo's URL (copied from step 1) or, if using step 2, to xxas/custom/my_favicon.ico, replacing my_favicon.ico with the actual name of the uploaded favicon.
Customize the mobile app icons
You can customize the mobile app icons when:
- You are publishing branded versions of the app into your own MDM platform, or
- You intend to publish branded versions of the apps into the public app store using your organization's app developer accounts
Many different-sized icon assets are required for packaging on the various mobile platforms. You will need to provide artwork prepared as follows:
- Vector file (Adobe Illustrator .AI or .EPS) – so that icons can be generated for all device sizes without a loss of quality
- RGB color space
- All fonts to be converted to outlines
Once you have the required artwork in place, please contact us so we can help you package your branded apps with your mobile app icons.
