Slack account linking associates an employee's Slack account with their Applaud user account.
Linking allows Applaud to identify the employee, apply the correct permissions, and maintain conversations using the employee's identity. Employees complete account linking the first time they use Applaud in Slack.
Note: Connecting a Slack workspace and linking employee accounts are different tasks:
- Connect a Slack workspace to make the Slack channel available to your organization.
- Link employee accounts so Applaud can identify individual employees when they use Slack.

How account linking works
After you connect a Slack workspace:
- An employee opens Applaud in Slack for the first time.
- Applaud checks whether the employee's Slack email address matches an existing Applaud user account.
- If the email addresses match, the accounts are linked automatically.
- If the email addresses don't match, the employee is prompted to sign in and manually link their account.
- Future conversations from that Slack account are associated with the linked Applaud user account.
Note: Automatic linking requires the employee's Slack email address to exactly match the email address on their Applaud user account.
Employee experience

Troubleshoot account linking

| Employee is prompted to sign in repeatedly | Verify the employee is using the correct organization email address and Applaud account. |
| One employee can't use Applaud, but others can | Verify the employee has an active Applaud user account. |
| Employee can use Applaud in one workspace but not another | Verify the workspace is connected and that the employee completed account linking for that workspace. |
| Account linking stops working | Verify the Slack workspace is still connected. If necessary, ask the employee to complete account linking again. |
Note: Account linking stores the association between a Slack account and an Applaud user account. It doesn't create, update, or manage employee accounts in Applaud.
