When employees send a message to Applaud via Slack, it is routed to your configured AI assistant. The assistant uses your organization's knowledge sources, Agent Tools, and policies to answer questions, complete supported requests, or guide employees to the next step.
Conversations remain in Slack, allowing employees to continue chatting without leaving their existing workflow.
Before you begin
Conversation flow
When an employee starts a conversation:
- The employee sends a message in a connected Slack workspace.
- Applaud identifies the employee using their linked Applaud account.
- The message is routed to the AI assistant configured for external communication channels.
- The assistant uses available knowledge sources, Agent Tools, and configured policies to generate a response.
- The response is returned in the same Slack conversation, allowing the employee to continue the discussion.
Conversation context
The AI assistant keeps the context of each Slack conversation, so employees can ask follow-up questions without repeating previous information.
Each conversation is associated with the employee's Applaud account, allowing permissions and available actions to be applied consistently throughout the conversation.
Supported interactions
Employees can use Slack to:
- Ask HR and workplace questions.
- Search connected knowledge sources.
- Complete supported HR requests using configured Agent Tools.
- Continue conversations over multiple messages.
- Raise HR cases when additional support is needed.
Sensitive topics, such as grievances or disciplinary matters, follow your organization's configured escalation process and are routed to HR when appropriate.
Requirements
To use the Slack channel, you must configure an AI assistant for external communication channels. If no assistant is configured, Applaud can't respond to employee conversations in Slack.
