When the assistant returns structured information such as a benefits summary, onboarding checklist, headcount by site, office locations, or a team organization chart, it displays a visual instead of a long block of text. Visuals make structured information easier to scan and interact with, helping you find important information more quickly.
You can review the information, follow available links, and continue the conversation without leaving the current screen.
The assistant automatically selects the visual type that best fits the response.
Experience designers control when visuals appear by enabling visual tools and configuring agent instructions in the workflow designer.
What visuals help you do
| Who you are | What you can achieve |
| Employee | Review structured information more quickly than plain text, open available links, and continue the conversation from the same reply. |
| Experience designer | Configure agents to use cards, lists, charts, and other visuals when structured presentation improves the experience. |
| Administrator or support | Understand which channels support interactive visuals and which display static images. |
Visuals appear within assistant replies. They can also appear when a case agent forwards an AI response that includes a visual.
Visual types at a glance
Applaud supports seven structured visual types, as well as Mermaid diagrams embedded in message text.
| Type | Use it for |
| Card | Displaying a single announcement or detailed item with an image or video, title, chips, and action buttons. |
| List | Displaying related items as a simple list, stepper timeline, or checklist with task status. |
| Carousel | Presenting several related cards that you scroll through horizontally, such as options, profiles, or featured content. |
| Chart | Visualizing numeric data with bar, line, pie, donut, gauge, funnel, radar, scatter, stacked, or progress charts. |
| Map | Showing one or more locations with pins, popups, and an optional location list. |
| Organization chart | Displaying a two-level organization chart with one manager and direct reports. |
| Celebration | Displaying a full-screen celebration for milestones such as birthdays, work anniversaries, promotions, and retirements. |
Mermaid diagrams
The assistant can also embed Mermaid diagrams directly in a message, including flowcharts, sequence diagrams, entity relationship diagrams, and Gantt charts.
Unlike structured visuals, Mermaid diagrams are part of the message itself. They follow the same channel behavior as other visuals: interactive in Applaud web and mobile app, and static images in other supported channels.
How the assistant chooses a visual
| Situation | Typical visual |
| One announcement or detail | Card |
| Steps, tasks, or ranked items | List (including stepper or checklist) |
| Several options side by side | Carousel |
| Numbers and comparisons | Chart |
| Places and locations | Map |
| Reporting relationships | Organization chart |
| A personal or team milestone | Celebration |
| A process or relationship diagram | Mermaid diagram |
Interactive and static channels
Where you open the conversation determines how you interact with a visual.
| Channel type | Channels | Experience |
| Interactive | Applaud web and mobile app | Fully interactive visuals. Scroll carousels, pan maps, zoom organization charts and Mermaid diagrams, select action buttons, and explore charts. |
| Static | Microsoft Teams, Slack, and Outlook email | Static PNG images of the same visual. You can view and save the image, but interactive features aren't available. |
What works only in interactive channels
In Applaud web and mobile app, you can:
- Select action buttons to open links, insert suggested text into the message box, or send suggested replies.
- Scroll carousels, pan maps, and zoom organization charts and Mermaid diagrams.
- Play video or other media embedded in cards when available.
- View full-screen celebration animations.
What you get in static channels
In Microsoft Teams, Slack, and Outlook email:
- Each visual appears as a static image.
- Action buttons aren't clickable.
- Maps, organization charts, and diagrams can't be panned or zoomed.
- Celebrations appear as a static image instead of a full-screen animation.
To continue a task or open interactive content, continue the conversation in Applaud web or the mobile app.
