Purpose
This article explains how multi-language support works in the AI assistant. It also clarifies the difference between interface translation and AI conversation capabilities.
How multi-language AI chat works
The AI assistant supports multiple languages across all integrated channels, including:
- Web portal
- Microsoft Teams
- Slack
- Mobile app
- Mobile web portal
When you communicate with the assistant in your preferred language, it understands your request and responds in the same language, regardless of the channel.
The assistant processes conversations directly in your language. It does not translate back and forth through English. This approach improves accuracy and produces more natural responses.
Types of language support
The platform provides two types of language support.
Interface translation (40+ languages)
The user interface supports more than 40 languages, including configured variants.
Interface translation applies to:
- Menus
- Buttons
- Labels
- System messages
- Navigation elements
When we reference "40+ supported languages" in our 'What languages do we support?' article, this specifically means the HTML/UI translation of the platform interface.
AI conversation language support
The assistant’s ability to understand and respond in different languages is separate from interface translation.
The assistant can communicate in many languages, but response quality varies by language.
Supported languages for AI conversations
Applaud’s AI demonstrates high proficiency in the following languages:
| English | Polish |
| Spanish | Russian |
| French | Japanese |
| German | Chinese (Simplified and Traditional) |
| Italian | Korean |
| Portuguese | Arabic |
| Dutch | Hindi |
The assistant can also communicate in many additional languages, including:
| Indonesian | Finnish |
| Turkish | Hebrew |
| Swedish | Thai |
| Danish | Vietnamese |
| Norwegian | + others |
Response quality may vary in these languages compared to the high-proficiency languages listed above.
Key capabilities
The AI assistant provides the following language capabilities.
- Native language processing: the assistant processes and generates responses directly in your language, which improves accuracy and cultural relevance.
- Bidirectional communication: You can ask questions and receive responses in the same language.
- Context switching: the assistant can handle conversations that include multiple languages, even within a single message.
- Consistent cross-channel experience: language support remains consistent across all supported channels.
Important clarification
When we reference "40+ supported languages" in our 'What languages do we support?' article, this refers specifically to interface translation capabilities, the language of buttons, menus, and UI elements.
The AI assistant supports conversations in many more languages. In general, the assistant performs better in widely used languages, but it can still support conversations in less commonly used languages.
