Before you can digitally sign outbound emails from Applaud, you must update your domain’s DNS records so that the Applaud domain key can be located and used to verify signatures.
When an email service provider receives a message from your domain, it checks the Applaud domain key in your DNS to validate the signature.
Key points
- Applaud rotates DKIM encryption keys quarterly for added security.
- As long as you configure your DNS records using the method below, you do not need to make changes when keys are updated, the lookup will always find the current key.
- The terminology in your registrar’s control panel may vary, but the process is the same.
- If you are not familiar with managing DNS records, consult your system administrator before proceeding.
Procedure
- Sign in to your domain registrar’s control panel using the name and password created when registering the domain.
- Locate the option to manage DNS records. This may be called DNS Management, Name Server Management, or Advanced Settings.
- Add a TXT record with the following values:
-
Host Record:
applaud1._domainkey.mycompany.com- Replace
mycompany.comwith your organization’s email domain (for example,mycompany.com,mycompany.org, ormycompany.ca).
- Replace

DNS update time
Changes to DNS records may take a few hours up to one day to propagate, depending on the TTL (Time To Live) settings in your registrar’s control panel.
