This procedure explains how to install the AskHR application from the Slack App Directory and connect it to Applaud.
Prerequisites
Before you start, make sure you have:
- Slack Workspace: The workspace where you will install the app.
- Admin Access: Slack administrator rights.
- Account Access: The AskHR app connects to an account. Make sure you have the URL and user credentials.
- AI Assistant Setup: In Applaud, enable the AI assistant and select Use this bot to interact with external bots and generate responses.
Step 1: Locate AskHR in the Slack App Directory
- Open the Slack App Directory in your browser or within the Slack app.
- In the search bar, enter AskHR.
- From the search results, select AskHR to open its details page.
Step 2: Install the Application
- On the app details page, select Add to Slack.
- Review the requested permissions.
- Select Authorize.
- When prompted, select Open Slack to return to your workspace.
- In Slack, go to Apps to verify the installation.
Step 3: Configure the Application
- In Slack, go to Apps and select AskHR.
- On the About tab, select Configuration.
- Review and update permissions as necessary, including who can use the app and what data it can access.
Step 4: Connect the Applaud instance to AskHR
- In Slack, navigate to Apps and select AskHR.
- On the Home tab, select Connect to Applaud.
- Enter your Applaud instance URL, for example: https://company.applaudcloud.com, and select Submit.
- The system uses a secure OAuth process in the background to connect Slack to your Applaud instance.
- Once connected, a success message appears in the Slack app.
Step 5: Connect the Applaud user account
- In Slack, go to Apps > AskHR > Home tab.
- Select Connect your account.
- The system redirects to your Applaud instance.
- Log in using your Applaud credentials.
- After successful authentication, return to Slack. The AskHR app is now fully connected to your user account.
Step 6: Test the Application
- Send a message to the AskHR bot in Slack.
- Confirm the bot responds quickly and without errors.
Step 7: Provide Access to Team Members
- Inform team members that the app is installed.
- Each team member must:
- Go to Apps > AskHR.
- Select Connect your account and log in with their Applaud credentials.
Additional instructions (If Needed)
Disconnect a user account
- In Apps > AskHR > Home, select Disconnect your account. This removes only the selected user’s connection.
Connect to a different Applaud instance
Disconnecting an instance removes all user connections. Users must reconnect individually after the new instance is added.
- In Apps > AskHR > Home, select Disconnect Applaud.
Uninstall AskHR
- In Slack, navigate to Apps > AskHR > About > Configuration.
- Select Remove App.
- Confirm the removal.
- Notify your team of the change.
Error Messages
If the connection fails or the AI assistant is unavailable, the app displays one of these messages:
- “We’re sorry! It seems our AI assistant is having trouble responding right now. Please try again later, or contact support if the issue persists.”
- “Apologies, but it seems you currently don’t have access. If this issue continues, please consider contacting the support for assistance.”
Notes for Enterprise Grid Customers
- You can install AskHR at the organization level and make it available in selected workspaces.
- Only the IT/HR administrator who installed AskHR can change the Applaud instance connection.
