Time off setup
To make each article relevant to the installed functionality, we've only mentioned certain workflows or pages installed by this template. To see how to add a time-off category and a time-off plan, see our knowledge base article, Time off pack.
Workflows
The template adds the Time off - sickness record approval workflow to the Absence model, which sends an approval request to a manager when their direct report submits a sickness record. You can edit any workflow to suit your requirements, see our knowledge base articles, Create a workflow.
Pages
The Sickness template adds the Sickness page, where employees can view their recent sicknesses and record current sicknesses. The page also shows FAQs, Knowledge articles, Useful links, and links to other services, for example, if you install the other time-off templates, you could link to those services such as Annual leave, Family leave, Volunteering, or other leave. Each block uses filters to only show the relevant material for the page. Make sure you edit the block and change the filters to what you need. You can edit the page layout, see our knowledge base article, About page layouts.
On the Recent sickness block, select RECORD SICKNESS, which opens the Record sickness page in a modal window:
Validation rules
The template adds a validation rule to the Absence model, Time off - check sickness is in the past. See our knowledge base article, About validation rules.
When you select dates in the future and attempt to submit your request, you receive this error message.

Follow-up tasks
- After installation, make sure you assign yourself the HRSS role. Otherwise, you might not be able to access some of the pages. See our knowledge base article, Assign or revoke a role.
- Add your policy information for time off knowledge articles, FAQs, useful links, and highlights. You might be able to set up automation using workflows to add your content. See our knowledge base article, About Applaud's integration with Workato.
- Define your time off categories. See our knowledge base article, Content Categories.
- Add the Sickness page to your service catalog, which requires the Service Catalog template. Alternatively, you can install the Time off Pack template.
- Tailor the experience to your organization's needs and procedures.
