Attach active tools to an agent to give it capabilities to use during conversations.
For example, you can attach a Request time off tool to an employee-facing agent so the agent can submit time-off requests in Workday.
Before you begin
Make sure you have:
- Created and refined the tool in Agent Tools.
- Set the tool to Active.
- Tenant Admin or Experience Designer access.
Attach a tool to an agent
- Open Agents.
- Select Add to create a new agent, or select Edit on an existing agent.
- If you're creating a new agent, enter the required agent details, including:
- Agent title
- Description
- Avatar
- Instructions that define how the agent should behave.
- Select the tools you want the agent to use.
Note: You can select up to 10 tools from the available catalog.
- Select Create for a new agent or Update for an existing agent.
- If the agent isn't active, select Activate.
- Test the agent with a request that should use the tool.
For example, if you've attached Request time off, ask:
"I'd like next Friday off."
Check that the agent uses the tool and completes the expected conversation.
Note: Agent Tools aren't available for orchestrator agents. Orchestrator agents use a different tool configuration.
Example: Add a time-off tool
Suppose you have an active Request time off tool.
- Open Agents and create or edit your agent.
- Under Agent Tools, select Request time off.
- If available, also select a tool that checks the employee's leave balance.
- Select Update.
- Activate the agent if needed.
- Test the agent by asking for time off.
The agent can now use the attached tools when they're relevant to the conversation.
